I finally have internet again. Feels like forever that I haven't had to check something or post something on my Blackberry.

I watched Desperate Housewives this morning. I know its just one of those froofy, guilty pleasure shows but I really liked this episode. The idea that one person can mean so much to so many people in different ways , blah blah blah. Its made me sentimental all morning.

I don't have internet and I'm using precious data minutes on my blackberry. But I HAVE to know what happened on the last ten minutes on The Unit tonight.

Anyone?

The latest Torchwood news here makes me all sad and shit. (No spoilers, just news on next season).

The latest Doctor Who news from someone on my flist, [info]mrbig1316, is upsetting as well. Under here )

*sigh*

The current Doctor Who wank is... stupid, like wank often tends to be. It's funny how fandoms end up filtering into classes just as in RL. Too bad most of where I end up in fandoms tends to be what is considered the lower class. Just call me white trash.

I need Burn Notice to start. I need my Bruce fix.

My Tiger Cub Scouts have graduated and will be moving on to their next rank, Wolf. My assistant leader and I are throwing the boys a party. I want to do a slideshow of pics from the last year. I know the song I want biut I don't have Powerpoint or capabilities at hand. What's a cheap way to do this?

People are assholes.

Someone dumped a kitten in my garbage can. They came onto my property and put a kitten IN my garbage can. I found her when I went to take the garbage out.

I had a friend bring me some kitten formula and she's eating it good. But what else do I need to look out for? I have NO money to take her to the vet to get checked out and I'm worried of having the boys fall in love with her to find out later she's sick.

Lifetime is making four more movies based on Nora's books. Press release is here.

The books they're considering are: Tribute, High Noon, Northern Lights, True Betrayals, Midnight Bayou and Carnal Innocence.

Tribute hasn't even been released yet so I can't really comment on that one. Northern Lights was considered the last go-round. I DON'T want High Noon done. I liked High Noon, not quite as much as I liked Montana Sky, but I still liked it. I didn't care for any of the movies last time and I more than likely won't this time BUT I could see True Betrayals, Midnight Bayou, and Carnal Innocence transferring to the small screen Lifetime style, Midnight Bayou especially.

The second in the Sign of Seven trilogy comes out May 6th and then not another new one until July. Actually, she only has five more new books out the rest of the year. Thankfully, two of those are JD Robb stories/books.

I'm trying to recall a book.

I *think* it's a Nora book but I'm not sure. I vaguely remember a woman seeing or witnessing something, the bad guys find out, and then come attack the town. I want to say that the attack and people defending lasts a good portion of the book.

It's freaking killing me not recalling this book. Anyone know?

CNN and Fox News have been highlighting Autism for the past week or so which I think is phenomenal and the many many MANY articles and shows out there are very informative and interesting. The articles/shows are showcasing, per se, both sides of a current hot button issue about vaccines contributing to Autism and autistic tendencies.

That said, before you (the general population being the you I'm referring) PLEASE do your own research before spouting off with "facts". You're entitled to your own opinion as to whether vaccines may or may not cause Autism and the rise of diagnoses BUT don't give your opinion as fact. UNLESS IT IS.

As of now, the mainstream medical community states there is no link between ANY vaccine and autism. I'm not saying there ISN'T, I'm saying that doctors say there is no medical fact linking the two.

Also? Autism is not cureable. It is, however, treatable. BIG DIFFERENCE.

THINK FOR YOURSELF. Don't believe everything a B-List actress claims to be truth. I commend her for putting herself out there and drawing awareness to Autism and whereas I may not fully agree with everything she's saying, I do commend her for having such a strong voice. I just hope that those who listen to her also have the mind to think for themselves before "deciding" anything.

I have my own opinion to the current debate. But that's not for this post.

I'm not a medical professional nor do I profess to be. I'm just someone who's worked with special needs children for awhile, including children AND adults with various forms of Autism.

Most of you know I work with children with autism. I've also recently started a Special Needs Trainer for the Boy Scouts in the greater St. Louis area. A friend forwarded me a link to a video. To my understanding, each time a video on this site is viewed, a donation is made to the comparable charity.

This video donates to AutismSpeaks, a charity very near and dear to my heart. This video is phenomenal and chronicles a little girl's plight with autism. There are other videos on the site as well, several more that also donate to AutismSpeaks. I encourage any of you to go to the homepage, What Kind of World Do You Want and watch the videos.

Please feel free to link to this post and/or forward.

Two things I need help with and which will save both my sanity AND buddha's precious life....

- Buddha found a damn sharpie. This time he didn't write all over himself Pictures here ) but he did it on my carpet. How the hell do I get sharpie off my carpet?

- I'm leading a couple classes on autism, ADHD, and special needs in Boy Scouts at University of Scouting next week. They're making me give them a little biography of sorts which I can do, but they're also asking me to give them a detailed list of my accomplishment, both personally and professionally for the staff brochure thingie. Will you guys help me with this? I have no idea what the hell to say or list...

Ok, I'm off to put buddha to bed before I beat him.

I made and posted icons for the first time in a very long time. It was cathartic and I really needed it. They're here if anyone is interested. There's Christian Kane, Steve Carlson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Sarah Michelle Gellar if anyone is interested.

I have the letter made out for my parents. It's pretty damn good too if I do say so myself. I haven't sent it yet however. I'm not exactly sure why.

I have a new playtoy. It's something I've been wanting for a very long time and Mike surprised me to help make up for how shitty my Christmas was. This. I'm very pleased. Now I just need to name her.

I have a headache.

Saw the new Die Hard last night. Everytime I think I'm set on who the best badass is (mostly Bruce or Sam Eliot) I watch a Die Hard movie and realize what a true badass Bruce Willis is. Watched Hatchet as well with Kane Hodder from Friday the 13th fame. Truly a suckerific movie. You know how I love my horrible B movie horror flicks though.

I'm rambling. Sorry.

I've had to deal with some closed minds as of late so consider this post NOT a lecture but hopefully something you can learn from if you weren't already previously educated about ADHD.

- ADHD is neurobiological disorder.

- ADHD is a SLOWED nervous system. But AHDH kids are hyper, you say? Yes, they are. They need stimulation to focus. They need to "kickstart" their brains, per se, to catch up with the rest of them.

- ADHD is NOTNOTNOT due to bad parenting. Midget doesn't have ADHD cuz I don't discipline him enough or harshly enough or hell, even consistently enough. Trust me, before his diagnosis, I would beat his ass on a regular basis cuz the boy just wouldn't listen to me. It didn't faze him. At all. Now that we have a definitive diagnosis and I'm doing what I'm doing with him, he's better. And NOT cuz I spank him. It's because I'm a *good* parent. Don't blame an actual disorder on MY parenting. I'll end up beating YOUR ass. Trust me.

- An ADHD child WANTS to behave, for lack of a better term. But more often than not, without medication and/or behavior modification, they CAN'T.

- Every behavior has a function. EVERY BEHAVIOR HAS A FUNCTION. Once you figure out what that function is, you can learn to modify the behavior. (And there are four functions if you really want to know; escape, attention, tangible, and sensory) We do it on a regular basis. Shower water too hot? We turn the cold on more. The function of that behavior is escape. Treat ADHD children (and adults for that matter) like a regular damn human being and learn with them.

For example, Michael likes to talk. He LOVES to talk. He thinks everyone is like his mommy and therefore believes all of his stories and missions are the most important and interesting things to listen to. Part of why he would get into trouble at school was that he wanted to tell his teacher all about his stories and missions whenever the thought came into his head. The function to that behavior? Attention. When I went to the school about modifying his curriculum due to his IQ tests and ADHD, I went with several plans, one being the teacher gave midget a visible timer. The function to his behavior was attention, so why not give it to him, but on your terms. He now gets 100 percent of his teacher's attention for two minutes every morning. But when that timer is up, he's done as well. If he behaves in class, he gets an additional two minutes before recess or lunch or whatnot. And it's worked.

- An ADHD child WANTS to behave, for lack of a better term. But more often than not, without medication and/or behavior modification, they CAN'T. (Yes I know I already said that but I thought it was worth mentioning again.)

- Shoving ADHD medication down a child will not cure him. It won't. It may help to mask symptoms but it won't cure it. ADHD is a disorder.

- There's three well-known ways to help treat an ADHD child; medication, diet, and behavior modification. As of right now, I'm combining medication and weekly behavior mod sessions for midget. I have good intentions of trying diet modifications but haven't had the energy or gumption to do so. Maybe THAT makes me a bad parent. I can honestly tell you that midget has come leaps and bounds than even just three months ago. I don't like the idea of him being on medication but just because I believe in something doesn't mean it's the proper course for my child.

- Video games does not cause ADHD. Seriously. I can't tell you how many times I've heard this. It's a neurobiological disorder. Him playing video games did not cause that disorder. Does he play them too much sometimes? Maybe so. But I've found something that interests him and it works for him. I use a token economy with him to get him to focus and reward him and the reward of video games works. If I thought for one second that video games caused this, do you honestly think I would still allow it?

- One best way to start with modifying an ADHD child's behavior is using the proper reinforcement, continuous or intermittent. Continuous being reinforcement every single time after behavior (positive or negative reinforcement applies here) and intermittent being reinforcement occasionally after behavior. Examples: Every time midget listens the first time I tell him to do something, he gets a piece of a puzzle. When the puzzle is complete, he gets a new video game. That's continuous positive reinforcement (and fits in with the token economy). I play scratch off lottery. I only win about once a damn year. That's intermittent positive reinforcement. I keep playing cuz I know sooner or later, I'll be rewarded.

- The biggest rule I've learned with my ADHD child is the Fair Pair rule. When you are teaching one behavior to decrease, another more preferable behavior should increase. So instead of asking "What should I do about the behavior?" try asking "What do I want them to do instead?"

- When I ignore midget at the store when he's being loud or disruptive, I'm NOT ignoring him because I'm a shitty parent. I'm doing several things. 1 - I still have shit I need to get done and I can't stop everything because of him, 2 - it's an actual psychological term called "planned ignoring". His behavior's function is attention. If I give him my attention for negative behavior, what does that teach him? It teaches him that everytime he acts like a butthead, he'll get mommy's attention. Doesn't work like that. I'd rather have you look at me like I'm an asshole that slide backwards on everything my son has gained. I don't care about you, I care about him. Take your judgemental head out of your ass before I hand it to you via my foot.

- ADHD children need visualization and structure. They need to know what's expected of them. Midget has told me he has to actually picture something in his brain so he knows what to do. And that's coming from a 7 year old with an almost genius IQ score. (Seriously, his reading came back at a high school sophomore level and math at an 8th grade level) So, instead of telling midget "It's time for bed. Go put on your pajamas, brush your teeth, put your dirty clothes in the basket, etc..", I tell him "It's time for bed. Go put on your pajamas then come back." Then I give him his next set of instructions.

- The most important thing I want EVERYONE to know about ADHD? There is not misbehavior, there is missed behavior. Do *you* want to be disciplined all the time? What makes you think my ADHD son does?

I work with children with autism. I'm realizing that almost everything we do at our school works well with ADD/ADHD children. I've done my research, I'm actually giving workshops and classes now on ADHD and autism in Boy Scouts. I'm in no way, shape, or form an expert so please don't get me wrong or think I'm being all know-it-all-y. But what I am? Is a mother whose son is the one thing in life she's done right and I refuse to let close-minded twits screw with that.

The "you" in this post is NOT directed towards anyone on my flist. It's directed to the asses I've had to deal with the last couple of weeks when it comes to my child.

On a random note, USA is showing NCIS in syndication now. First season just started. Eight and nine central every Wednesday. If you're not watching this show and want to start, I can't recommend it enough.

Because I'm being a good girl and staying home with the kids tonight and therefore stuck watching a shitload of Thomas the Train, Spongebob, and other such shows...

a. Post a list of 15-20 TV shows you love.
b. Have your friends list guess your favourite character from each show.
c. When guessed bold the line and write a little bit about why you like that character, or your favourite quote. (Include a picture if you want!)

1 - Xena - The show was called Xena for a reason. It was about her journey for redemption. Although I'm not ashamed to admit that Joxer and Autolycus tied in second. Favorite quote/s: I have many skills.; We all have families that we are born into, but sometimes families change, and we have to build our own. For me our friendship binds us closer than blood ever will.; It's easier to believe in yourself after someone has believed in you first. (I know Xena didn't say that but it's one of my favorite quotes ever)
2 - Buffy
3 - Angel - Cordelia was Angel Investigation's heart. She was their sarcastic, materialistic, loyal heart. Favorite quote/s - I'm not a sniveling whiny little Cry-Buffy. I'm the nastiest girl in Sunnydale history. I take crap from no one.
4 - Firefly - As big of a crush as I may have on Nathan Fillion, Jayne was *my* Firefly. He was an ass, loyal to the one he's with, and the Hero of Canton. Favorite quote/s: Let's be bad guys.; I'll be in my bunk.; Time for some thrilling heroics.
5 - Farscape
6 - Third Watch
7 - Rescue Me
8 - OZ - I'm not sure what it says about me that my favorite character on this show was a psychotic yet sexy serial killer. There was just something about him that made you root for him and want him to be happy, or relatively happy, with Toby. Favorite quote/s: You and me together? God doesn't have the balls to keep us out.; I would have thought that was fairly obvious.; I do what I have to.
9 - La Femme Nikita
10 - NCIS - Ok, I'll be the first to admit that I love this show and all of it's entirety BUT there's just something about DiNozzo. I think it's 90% what Michael Weatherly brings to the character and 10% the writing. Tony is cocky and sure of himself outwardly but inside, he is loyal to a fault and just wants those he cares about to approve of him, especially Gibbs. Favorite quote/s: DiNozzo. Big "D", little "I", big "N", little "ozzo".
11 - BSG - Words cannot describe how much I love Kara Thrace. She's sassy, she's bitchy, she's strong, she's vulnerable, she's...Starbuck. Favorite quote/s: The same thing we always do. Fight 'em until we can't.; Bitch took my ride!; Fear gets you killed. Anger keeps you alive.
12 - Supernatural - I LOVE PAPA WINCHESTER. It seems like the majority of the fandom hates him but I don't see it. Evil stole the love of his life and he made it his life's mission to not only avenge but ensure it never happened to anyone else. And in the end, he did what any great parent would've done... he sacrificed himself for the love of his children. Favorite quote/s: It scares the hell out of me. You two are all I’ve got. But I guess we are stronger as a family. So... we go after this damn thing... together.
13 - Queer As Folk - Emmett. I love Emmett, LOVE him. He was pure and not necessarily naive but wanted to believe in the good in everyone. Favorite quote/s: A song and a snack can turn any moment into an occasion. I may be a slut, but at least I'm an honest slut. And my absolute favorite... Little Mary Sunshine died. I'm Little Mary Go Fuck Yourself.
14 - Doctor Who - It doesn't seem to be politically correct anymore to like Rose Tyler but I do. In fact, I LOVE Rose Tyler. I firmly believe she's in the alternate earth working for Torchwood and living the fantastic life that she knows the Doctor would want her to live. She misses the Doctor but isn't pining for him. She *knows* the Doctor loved her in his own way. Rose made me smile. Favorite quote/s: Nah, I failed hullabaloo.; It's better to die than live like you - a bitchy trampoline.; I made my choice a long time ago. I'm never leaving you. Now what can I do to help?
15 - Boston Legal - I LOVE ALAN SHORE. Actually, I love Alan and Denny but still... There's something about Alan, he's smarmy, cocky, and just plain sexy. If there's one thing that holds Alan together though, it's his friendship with Denny. Favorite quote/s: I am such a slut for authority.; Denny Crane. (Yes, technically Alan doesn't say that but you just can't quote Boston Legal without saying that)
16 - Burn Notice
17 - Eureka - This show is smart and often confuses the hell out of me. But for me, Jack Carter and his sincerity and belief in doing what is right no matter the consequences is what I hold dear. Even when faced with losing his love and everything he's ever wanted, he knew that he had to do what was right. I can honestly say that Jack Carter is one fictional character that inspires me. Favorite quote/s: That can't be good.; The reason I do what I do, why I chose my job, is so I can make a difference.; Listen to me. There is no time, no space, no way that we don't end up together. You just gotta have some faith.

ETA: Also, I have two Scissor Sisters downloaded, I Can't Decide and I Don't Feel Like Dancing, and I LOVE them. I want more songs from them similar to the beat and tone. Any suggestions?

I'm sure this is a stupid question but I'm kinda scared...

It's about Athena (the laptop my wondrous friends gave me last year). The icons on the upper right (battery, power, and whatever the middle one is) are blinking. The battery is blinking orange, the middle is blinking orange then soemtimes green, the power is a solid green so I guess that's good. The battery is dead so I have to leave it plugged in all the time.

Is this bad? Is my baby going to blow up or something? Somebody PLEASE reassure me. I'm seriously freaking out here.
